In the Qur'an: Maryam 19:81

وَٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةٗ لِّيَكُونُواْ لَهُمۡ عِزّٗا

And they have taken besides Allah [false] deities that they would be for them [a source of] honor.
